Even MOAR Fifty Shades and Crossfire News

Fifty Shades Movie News:

  • I had heard the rumor that Jamie Dornan’s wife didn’t want him filming Fifty Shades anymore, and according to this random site I found, people thought this was because his wife was worried he had feelings for Dakota Johnson. HAHHAHAHAHHAA. If that was true, someone needs to just show her this gif:
    • fifty shades of sigh gawker gifI also find it weird that the Christian Post is reporting on Fifty Shades, but maybe they feel like they have to because of Christian’s name?
  • In exciting news, apparently young women are able recognize how problematic and abusive Christian and Ana’s relationship is:

A study by Michigan State University scholars suggests women aged 18-24 – a prime period for exploring love and sexuality – are able to recognize a harmful relationship marked by controlling and manipulative behavior, stalking and emotional and sexual abuse.

“The encouraging news is that these young women are identifying aspects of an unhealthy relationship between Christian and Anastasia,” said lead author Amy Bonomi, chairperson and professor of MSU’s Department of Human Development and Family Studies. “They were keenly aware of the different aspects of abuse in the relationship and told us in great detail the danger the abuse poses for Anastasia.”

Some troubling things came out of the article, though:

While study participants were able to identify Christian’s abuse of Anastasia, they also were sympathetic and rationalized his behavior as a function of his personality, affluence and his own sexual abuse as a child.

Further, some participants blamed Anastasia for not “speaking up” about the abuse.

ARAGH NO STOP WHY!!! YOU WERE SO CLOSE, PEOPLE!

I’m fine with people feeling some degree of sympathy towards Christian. We all know of his troubled childhood, but don’t rationalize his behaviour! It’s worth pointing out that Christian could have still used BDSM as a way to overcome his trauma or something along those lines, but he could have done so in a way that wasn’t abusive to Ana.

How could Ana speak up when EL James isn’t even aware that it’s abuse? Or even forgetting that for a second, if this were not a fictional relationship, one could argue Ana is terrified that Christian CAN FIND HER ANYWHERE and could buy any company she works at, own any building she lives in, etc.

  • In lighter news, remember, the next two movies are being filmed back to back starting in 2016. Given they can probably just recycle old footage the way James recycles lines/entire scenes, I’m assuming filming should only take like a week tops.
  • I still can’t get over the fact that the director of House of Cards  is now directing this. Although, I guess maybe Christian and Frank Underwood have a few things in common.

Crossfire (One With You) News:

  • The excerpt is essentially just Eva reminding us of how tumultuous her relationship with Gideon is. Now comes complete with marriage!

Marrying him was a dream come true. Staying married to him is the fight of my life. Love transforms. Ours is both a refuge from the storm and the most violent of tempests. Two damaged souls entwined as one.

Yeah, it’s weird that. When has their relationship ever been a refuge from anything? It’s just one big drama tornado DESTROYING EVERYTHING IN ITS ABSURD PATH.

We have bared our deepest, ugliest secrets to one another.

Oh, yeah! That happened in Bared to You, the title of the book jogged my memory.

  • I’ve been searching high and low for Crossfire TV series news, but nothing. At least we got that release date for the last book.

Seriously, though, I can’t wait for the next Fifty Shades movies to come out and for One With You to be released. Then I just need the Crossfire TV show so we can keep this party going forever.

I didn’t like this season, but I enjoyed the first two. I don’t think it’s the greatest show ever made by any stretch of the imagination, but I’ve been entertained watching it. Why don’t you like it?

I go to state and my friend was actually a part of that study. She came back from it really pissed at everyone. She said they all basically victim blamed Ana and that she should be happy he was getting her expensive presents. Makes me happy I didn’t sign up for it tbh

!!!!!! This is so cool. That your friend was part of the study. Obviously not what those people said, which is so awful. It makes me glad I’ve never had the opportunity to partake in something like this…I think I would have flipped my shit.

I assume that the “back to back” filming just involves several shots of Jamie Dornan playing the piano (at night, in the afternoon, while eating lunch, etc.) and Dakota Johnson biting her lip and playing with her hair.

When I was reading that they’re starting to see abuse, I was really cheering yes, yes! Yes! At last! But then, no! Why rationalize his behavior that way? Oy, I get the feeling a lot of them might have been brainwashed or something…Out of curiosity, are there any books that depict abuse the way it should be depicted? If everything goes okay, I’ll be having a boy in March/April, and years down the road, I would want to teach him how not to be an abusive douchebag.

PS. Any thoughts or opinions that Sylvia Day’s book as wll as E.L James’ umm thing made it to the Goodreads finals round? Mine opinion, what’s wrong with the world these days?

Hmm I’ll have to have a think about books where abuse isn’t cloaked as romance. I know I’ve read some in the past, but a lot of times they wind up being very oldschool Lifetime.

Congratulations 🙂 I certainly hope everything goes okay; we need more guys to be raised by awesome parents teaching them not to grow up to be douchebags!

UG I’m not surprised at all. Sad? A little bit. But not surprised they made it to the finals.

This pisses me off so much. Christian’s shitty behavior is excusable because of his background?

I’m going to go on a dramatic rant here. Sorry. I’m just so mad and tired of this bullshit:

His trauma explains why he’s a shithead. It gives a REASON. But NOT an excuse.

I had a shitty trauma too. I was choked and beaten by my father, and I had to watch him do the same to the one woman I cared most about. Not just to her, but to my siblings as well. All I ever knew was abuse, and I hadn’t the slightest idea it wasn’t normal until I was a teenager (and that’s only because I discovered the Internet). I didn’t even know of the world beyond my home because we were NOT ALLOWED to go outside since our father was freaking insane, thought he was saving the world, believed in every conspiracy theory out there, and made damn well sure Neighbors ignored the screaming and crying, but would have the nerve to complain about the stomping and banging that occurred when we ran around and played and had FUN FOR ONCE.

I grew up in a really shitty environment, I had no role-models whatsoever, my brothers and sisters were all pitted against each other. I raised myself and I’m actually a really freaking good person. I am not a good person “considering the place I grew up in”. I’m a good person, period. Am I untrusting of others? Yes. Do I have walls that I don’t know how to take down? Yes. Do I abuse people because of my “inability to express myself right”? NO.

I am not “special”. I’m not a unique case. I am not one in a million who experienced something horrible most of my life and somehow turned out alright. To be honest, most people who experience a shit life actually turn out to be good people, yet popular opinion dictates that those with troubled pasts were always your asshole jocks in high school and the other bullies who picked on your weight, for being different, for being too skinny, for being dumb, or any other shit like that. Popular opinion is fucking wrong.

I have some extremely violent tendencies pent up inside me. But I never once let it go beyond wild thoughts in my mind. I don’t manipulate people. I don’t psychologically, or verbally abuse them. I could. I’m certainly capable of it and I know how to do it because I understand people well as I’m extremely observant and good with psychology. But I don’t.

Apparently though, if I did, it would be perfectly excusable, as I’m a poor troubled soul. I’ll keep that in mind.

Sorry – it just makes me so freaking mad I can’t explain. And it’s even worsened when those women wonder “WELL WHY DIDN’T ANA JUST UP AND LEAVE?” like it’s SO simple. People like them have NO idea the kind of permissions they are giving, and what kind of people they’re giving those permissions to (and yes, it DOES matter that these women think that way – people generally look for justifications from others before they take action).

    I just… It… Them… This book… The movies… Crossfire (THAT IS BECOMING A TV SHOW? WHAT? NOOOO)… Christian… AAAAAGH. I want to cry.

Who am I kidding? I’ll just go and play the piano in a sad tune that will reflect my inner-turmoil of sorrow and rage. And I’ll do it with my shirt ON. (Anybody get that reference ;] ?)

Thank you so much for posting this. I’m sorry you had to live through that nightmare. You perfectly illustrate that it is a reason not an excuse, and I’m appalled that most readers don’t seem to get that.

This Crossfire TV series has been in the works for awhile, but no real progress has been made. I don’t know why they think it would work as a show.

Piano playing in the moonlight to reflect your inner turmoil is basically a requirement for you at this point.

i don’t understand why this sudden surge in checking that women in college age are able to identify problematic aspect of fifty shades series.it is like they don’t trust us to become batman after watching or reading batman comics or following the road of even more problematic “the secretary” movie..they should be conducting research on high school girls and boys if they are really worried after twilight series..
it just makes me angry more than happy at how they are targeting our own judgment in adult age group, especially women.i expected you would understand ariel 🙁

    • 22aer22 Reply

I don’t think they’re targeting college-aged women in patronising way because they don’t trust their judgement. I think a big part of it is probably that it’s relatively easy to run these kinds of tests. Because universities are a place where a lot of research goes on, and you’ve got lots of people in one place, it’s a popular option.

It’s also cool to compare results across generations and see if/how opinion is changing. That was probably beyond the scope of this research, though, but someone’s probably looked into it.

I haven’t looked into whether any research like this has been done on high school students, but I wouldn’t be surprised if there was!

exactly, these twilight related researches are definitely not popular but fifty shades related ones are highly marketed, factor being a)subject of novel b)popularity of the subject.but this is still suspicious because b) being a common factor and a) is not.also the narrative hinges on female protagonists decision to stop or pursue the relationship and not on the male one in all the three books not like twilight where book 2 was edward dependent and 3 and 4 book motivated by edward being the center on bella’s attention(universe basically, oh! another e l james inspiration 😛 )

“You have to stop doing this,” ……..“Well stop treating me like one. I’m sorry I didn’t call you. I won’t be so selfish again. I know you worry about me.”
“But you’re an adult now—you need to grow up and smell the fucking coffee and stop behaving like a petulant adolescent”
