Previously, Feyre and Lucien were rescued from their battle with Lucien’s bros by the Feyre’s squad. Now, they return to Velaris.
A Court of Wings and Fury Chapter 14:
Feyre arrives home at the Velaris town house, and I remember how odd and amusing it is that their headquarters is a town house. Everyone gathers round, and Lucien is like, “Omg! Children are laughing in the streets!” Which seems to suitably impress everyone, and he’s allowed to stay/live.
But before we can delve into that more, Rhys shows up:
“This is Velaris,” I explained. “The City of Starlight.”
His throat bobbed. “And you are High Lady of the Night Court.”
“Indeed she is.” My blood stopped at the voice that drawled from behind me.
At the scent that hit me, awoke me. My friends began smiling.
I turned.
Rhysand leaned against the archway into the sitting room, arms crossed, wings nowhere to be seen, dressed in his usual immaculate black jacket and pants.
Woah. What a sexy bad boy. He kicks everyone out of the house so he and Feyre can bang. Lucien must be like ?????.
He carried me into our bedroom— once his room, now full of our belongings.
This is the dumbest description of a bedroom I’ve ever read in my life. YES AT ONE POINT HE LIVED IN THIS BEDROOM WITHOUT YOU HE’S LIKE 100?
I braced myself to be sprawled on the bed, but Rhys paused halfway across the room, the door snicking shut on a star-kissed wind.
I don’t understand. This room is upstairs…inside the house. Where is this star-kissed wind coming from? How can wind be star-kissed?
Before any sexy times happen, they catch up a little bit. Half of the Spring Court has turned against Tamlin as planned. But what of Jurian and Ianthe, you didn’t ask?
“Reports are murky on both. Jurian, it seems, has returned to the hand that feeds him. Ianthe …” Rhys lifted his brows. “I assume her hand is courtesy of you, and not the commanders.”
“She fell,” I said sweetly.
This squicked me out just a little because it’s the kind of language an abuser would use to hide what they did. I hate Ianthe and think she’s horrible, but Matthew’s post resonated with me.
They continue to smell and turn one another on with their expository foreplay.
He reached for my arm, gently examining the angry welt where my skin had been torn by an arrow. Darkness rumbled in the corner of the room. “Cassian let me into his mind just now— to show me what happened on the ice.”
That was super nice of Cassian to stop whatever the fuck he was doing to let Rhys into his mind. I wonder if he was like, “Oh, guys, guys, everyone hush. Rhys is about to bang Feyre, but he needs to look into my mind for a second to find out what happened to her on the ice rather than just asking her about it. Or having her show him herself. Because this is the option that makes the most sense.”
After more threats to their enemies and smelling each other, Feyre remembers her sisters.
“Where are my sisters?” The thought clanged through me, jarring as a pealing bell.
I laughed so hard when I read this. I mean, I couldn’t even believe Lucien wasn’t screaming about his mate and instead was like, “The children are laughing.” Lucien, bro, you have one job this book, and you failed.
They’re at “The House of Wind” which sounds like a fart house.
“I can— take you to them.” Every word seemed to be an effort.
But he would, I realized. He’d shove down his need for me and take me to them, if that was what I wanted. My choice.
Rhys, you don’t have to worry. Your big dick energy made her forget all about her sisters. Feyre’s just super grateful you would sacrifice your banging in order to let her see them.
There is so much more exposition I can’t even. I guess the most important thing is that Rhys reveals why he was away when everyone else went to rescue Feyre.
“I was on the continent. At the human queens’ palace.”
I choked. “You were where?”
“Technically, I was flying above it, but—”
[…]
“It’s the quiet on their side of the sea that bothers me. No whisper of armies gathered, no other human allies summoned. Since Hybern, we’ve heard nothing. So I thought to see for myself why that is.” He flicked my nose, tugging me closer again. “I’d just neared the edge of their territory when I felt the bond awaken again. I knew the others were closer, so I sent them.”
Wait, so he was just about to fly over the palace, but got called back to save Feyre? Convenient.
Rhys rested his chin atop my head. “I wanted to be there— to get you. Find you. Bring you home.”
“You do certainly enjoy a dramatic entrance.”
Dude, he was leaning against a doorframe, relax.
Of course he would have been working against Hybern while I was away. Had I expected them all to be sitting on their asses for over a month?
I’m missing something. It sounds like he went out flying for an afternoon. How long did this excursion take?
They get lovey dovey again and there is a lot of tear licking. Feyre reminds us this happened Under the Mountain, but wasn’t that during Rhys’ creepo phase? I don’t want to remember that, thanks.
Feyre takes a bath before any sexy times can happen. Things immediately confuse me.
“Bubbles?”
“Do you have a moral objection to them?”
No bubbles were harmed in the making of this chapter?
My fingers were near-black with dirt and caked blood. I cringed. “I might need more than one bath to get clean.”
He snapped his fingers, and my skin was instantly pristine again. I blinked. “If you can do that, then what’s the point of the bath?” He’d done it Under the Mountain for me a few times— that magical cleaning. I’d somehow never asked.
I AM SCREAMING! When did this magical cleaning happen? How could she not have asked about that? I would have had hundreds of questions. Like how is this a power Rhys has? How economically sound is it? Can we scale it? Can Rhys solve all our fresh water supply issues by eliminating our need to bathe?
“The essence of the dirt remains.” […] “Like a layer of oil”
HUH??
Everything gets sexy as Feyre bathes. But the bath can only fit one of them, and Rhys can’t snap his figures to renovate the bathroom.
His clothes vanished— all of them— and his mouth angled over my own.
Rhys’ powers remain as much of a mystery to me as Feyre’s.
Sexy times are had by all.
I thought I might explode into moonlight and flame…
How does one explode into these two things…
Afterwards, they promise to never be apart again.
“Never again,” I promised him, and whispered it over and over as the sunlight drifted across the floor.
One million dollars says it happens again.
I don’t have anything to say about the book, I just laughed so much during this post.
I laughed out loud. The book gets so much worse once they are back with Rhys.
Also, the whole time I read this book, I was annoyed at how much they just showed each other their minds to find out what happened, but was simultaneously grateful not to have to read them have a conversation about it.
“I thought I might explode into moonlight and flame…” Did she survive?
Oh my god can you imagine how awkward it’d be having the ability to ‘enter minds’ but not being in full control of it yet? How many times has cassian accidentally entered Rhys’ mind while he was banging or on the toilet? Fuck the warrior training, I wanna see them training their minds and constantly fucking up. It’d be more entertaining than this drivel, anyway
While I was reading the post I thought Cassian probably was checking in on the sexy times in a weird voyeuristic mind meld way. When Rice man, not distracted by sexy times, noticed Cass was like oh yeah, let me tell you this thing that Feyre could totally tell you. Because, after getting kicked out of the house, why would he immediately be checking in.
If the essence of the dirt remains then what the hell is the point? I don’t think I would really prefer a layer of oil to just plain old being clean.
“But he would, I realized. He’d shove down his need for me and take me to them, if that was what I wanted. My choice.”
It skeeves me out that we are supposed to think that this is romantic. I am pretty sure if you decide that you would rather do something than bone than your ‘mate’ should ALWAYS respect this as your choice, not just when he is feeling especially magnanimous.
I’m so glad someone said this lol. It’s extremely skeevy.
“I love how he allows me to not have sex with him when I don’t want to”
I was just left speechless regarding Rhys’ cleaning powers… Like, was that actually written in a published book??!? WTF?! How do you clean something but not clean it? What does it mean?! And it is so so so f*cking stupid how he can snap his fingers and do stuff that are totally not relatable to his powers, which I thought were mental and telepathic type of powers. The snapping fingers just reminds me of bad witch movies from the 80s. It’s so dumb. Why would anyone put it in their book?!?
Sorry to keep commenting on almost every post but-
Ok, so Lucien has literally never heard or seen children laughing in the street before? Not once? I know that we’ve been shown life isn’t exactly super happy for everyone and there are major classist problems, noticeably cough Velaris cough, but the situation within the courts does not seem to be THAT bad. Even during horrible, awful periods of time, children will play around. Just reads as so weird to me. Does this mean Lucien never once laughed outside as a child? It seems meant to show how bad life is everywhere else but ummmm it doesn’t seem that dire.
