Previously, Jurian, a character we once thought evil, turned out not to be evil. Somehow his motivations for being evil and for being one of the good guys both make almost no sense. What an achievement! Seriously, why the fuck does Hybern trust him at all? It never made a lick of sense why Jurian would be helping him.
A Court of Wings and Ruin Chapter 54:
Feyre is still reeling over the GOOD DUDE JURIAN revelation. She is essentially like, “I was shook AF, but also I believed him 100%.”
Jurian was saying to Mor, “They didn’t kill the sixth queen. Vassa. She saw through me—or thought she did—from the start. Warned them against this. Told them that if I was reborn, it was a bad sign, and to rally their armies to face the threat before it grew too large. But Vassa is too brash, too young. She didn’t play the game the way the golden one, Demetra, did. Didn’t see the lust in their eyes when I told them of the Cauldron’s powers. Didn’t know that from the moment I began to spin Hybern’s lies … they became her enemies. They couldn’t kill Vassa—the next in line to her throne is far more willful. So they found an old death-lord above the wall, with a penchant for enslaving young women. He cursed her, and stole her away … The entire world believes she’s been sick these past months.”
Real talk: I have no fucking idea what is going on. My brain is so resistant to retaining information when I’m bored as hell no matter how hard I try to absorb this.
They admit they already know this, but they don’t reveal Lucien has been sent to find her.
But everyone knows the story isn’t about who is good or evil, it’s about MAAAAAATES!
“You belong to him.”
“I belong to no one. But my heart belongs to you.”
Graysen’s face hardened. “I don’t want it.”
He would have been better off hitting her, that’s how deep the hurt in her eyes went. And seeing her face crumple …
Do you care about Elain and This Dude? I don’t.
Feyre intervenes to talk about the “plot” again, telling Graysen that he and his family will protect people and in return she and her crew will ward the fuck out of their property.
Hand to my heart, Lord Nolan’s reply is, “I don’t want riffraff wandering through here.”
“So only the rich and chosen will walk through the gates?” Rhys asked, arching a brow. “I can’t imagine the aristocracy being content to work your land and fish in your lake or butcher your meat.”
This is really rich coming from Lord No Riffraff is Allowed in MY City.
Jurian threatens to have Hybern murder these dudes if they don’t help. He and Rhys are going to become best friends, aren’t they? Lord Nolan agrees to shelter people.
Again, dating is what really matters, because Graysen abruptly starts shouting at Elain to take her ring off. He says icky things, Nesta slaps him, and then they all leave. Outside, they catch up a bit more with Jurian and he gives them some insights into his double-agent plans.
Jurian congratulates Feyre on killing the incest twins.
“I did it for those Children of the Blessed,” I said. “Not for glory.”
“I know,” Jurian said, flicking up his brows. “Why do you think I decided to trust you?”
Powerful stuff.

She saw through me—or thought she did—from the start. Warned them against this.
Wait…if she warned them against allying with Jurian…then she did see through him. Yes? Because his loyalty now lies with the Super Friends? Is this correct? What is that section in the dashes doing there?!
“Why do you think I decided to trust you?”
“…Because I’m the protagonist?”
