Hello dear readers! Are you excited to not read the word “mate” six times a week for the foreseeable future?
Well, as is always the case here on Bad Books, Good Times, all good news is also bad news – it’s time to brace ourselves for what’s next. As some of you may have heard by now, the gods have smiled/frowned/laughed at us, for our prodigal author has returned.
That’s right, friends. At long last, E L James has written a (actually) new book.
Of course we’re reading this. How could we not? E L James is, like, BBGT’s original sin.
That said, we have about a month until this book comes out. Ariel and I are taking this week off to get some well-deserved distance from ACOWAR, as well as to finalize our plans for what we want to do with the month between now and when E L James’s The Mister (god, what a name! It’s like a blank check for atrocity!) comes out. We’re, like, 90% sure we’ve decided on what we want to read between now and then, but just want to mull it over for a bit longer.
Of course, if you’ve got anything you think would be perfect for us to read, tell us in the comments below! What’s the book buzz? What’s the hot goss? What have you read lately that, wow, you really wish you didn’t but you’re also sort of glad you did? We’ll be back next week. I promise it’s not A Court of Frost and Starlight. Or any other series we’ve read before. We’ll be back next week with a totally new book.
So glad to be done with Prythian, ye gods!
Def looking forward to whatever is next though I hope you guys do the Winston Brothers series sometime. A romance series about six brothers who all have beards (yes this is the actual gimmick, help). It includes such gems as “sexy Gandalf cosplay” and is generally balls out crazy so I feel it’s perfect for here
I am really hoping to do this series at some point too!! I saw it on Goodreads and instantly was like Y E S!!
I guess EL James started writing the next books in the trilogy, but slowly realised how indefensible Christian’s actions were, and abandoned the project, horrified at what she’d created. Or so I’d like to hope…
Have you seen the blurb about her new book on her website? I’m pretty sure the new asshole protagonist is at much as douchebaggy as the old asshole just without the BDSM (whose treatment by James might be smallest problem of her original trainwreck anyway).
My god ACotR was so much build up to… absolutely nothing.
If you guys haven’t heard of/read the Shatter Me series… well let’s just say it for making HoN look decent by comparison. I def think you guys would have a field day with that one.
Seconding “Shatter Me.” Hell, any product of the 2000s paranormal YA boom will be like shooting fish in a barrel.
I will definitely have to look that series up!! So may bad books so little time.
At least she’s apparently setting this one in England, so I won’t have to read about a 22-year-old American woman talking about “throwing her toys out of the pram” or being “caught on the back foot.”
I for one am hoping for some Animorphs! They’re short enough to do in a couple weeks, and more to the point, they ain’t any good.
We’ve thought about this before! But we haven’t discussed it in years – we needed to research how well they actually hold up and we never got around to it. It’s not what we’ll be doing starting next week, but thanks for reminding me, I definitely want to look into this idea
I found this site just because I was looking for a good takedown of a bad novel. I blew through all three ACOTAR in two days (sorry for minimizing your pain and sacrifice like that). So now I’m a fan.
Thank you! Glad you’re enjoying what we do here! Don’t worry about minimizing our pain and sacrifice lol. We’re happy for those whose time we can spare!
International Guy Volume 1 by Audrey Carlan looks appropiately hilarious/awful.
The All Souls Trilogy by Deborah Harkness is all kinds of awful. I’d describe it as a combination of 50 Shades and Twilight.
