Hello, friends! Hopefully things look a bit cleaner on the Patreon now!
Ariel and I renamed and retired a few tiers, added some new rewards, all that jazz. If you’re currently subscribed to our Patreon, you might notice you have a new set of rewards or name for your tier. If you’re not a patron yet, we think we’ve made a few changes you might find worthwhile!
1) We have a Discord
Everybody has access to the Discord! Everybody! Just donate $1/month and you’re set. You can come chat with us over there right now.
For anyone who needs an explanation (i.e. Matthew until a month ago), Discord is like Slack but for fan communities instead of business. In other words, it’s a place to chat with other people who like the thing you like. But rather than being one giant chatroom or a giant comments section, there’s specific channels for different conversations. It’s just an easy way to chat with Matthew, Ariel, and other readers about books and reading. Or anything else, like tv or pets or whatever. And when we fuck up our schedule and a post is coming late, you’ll know about it right away.
2) We’ve retired the Used Book Club
We’ve removed rewards related to the Used Book Club, eBooks, and stickers. All the eBooks we’ve uploaded are still available for access.
3) We’ve simplified the reward tiers
- $1/month – Discord access
- $3/month – Discord access, extra content on Patreon
- $5/month – Discord access, extra content on Patreon, spot in the featured patrons sidebar on the website
- $10/month – Discord access, extra content on Patreon, spot in the featured patrons sidebar on the website, access to an exclusive Discord channel where we’ll just write nice things about you because you’re really very generous, and also smart!
- $100?!?!?! – Feel REALLY strongly about a book we should read? You got it, ultimate fan. Anyone at this tier for a month gets to pick our next book. (One month at this tier = one pick. We may refuse to do a book if we really disagree, in which case you may need to come up with an alternative.) Includes rewards from all previous tiers.

Let us know if you’re having trouble accessing the Discord. All patrons should have access to it now! You might need to select your reward again if your previous tier has been retired.
