The Mister Chapters 19 & 20 Summary: Trouble Comes Knocking

Previously they banged it out. What more do I need to say?

The Mister Chapter 19 Summary:

Maxim takes Alessia out for some shooting practice–clay pigeons of course, not actual hunting.

‘Good morning, my lord,’ Jenkins says.

‘Hi.’ I check to see if Alessia has overheard, but she’s climbing out on her side of the car. ‘“Sir” will do, Jenkins,’ I mutter as she approaches us.

I keep forgetting that while Maxim is considering marrying Alessia, he still hasn’t told her that he’s a lord. Can’t wait to see how that one plays out.

‘Mount the stock as hard against your shoulder as you can. You don’t want any recoil.’

‘Okay.’

I’m amazed that she’s following what I’m saying.

I mean, me too, but that’s mostly because when Alessia can and can’t understand things seems to be totally dependent on what’s easier for James to write in a given scene.

‘Can I have another shoot?’

‘Of course. We have all morning. And it’s “shot”.’

Or if it’s cuter, I guess. Although I’m probably not being fair since I think Alessia is meant to read a lot, so maybe she’s more familiar with the technical terms that Maxim used whereas it’s easier to mix up the right conversational (?) word sometimes. I’m trying to think of the way my colleagues/friends speak, and that’s definitely the case sometimes.

Anyway, after they’re done shooting, Maxim is finally about to tell Alessia that he’s a lord, when she gets distracted by a deer. Instead of, you know, telling her after they admire the deer, he’s like NAH I’LL WAIT. Whatever.

Also Maxim feels his phone buzzing and has a feeling it’s a call or text from Caroline, but he ignores it. I’m guessing she’s just going to show up unannounced soon, right?

Our heroes talk about how great their day was, and it ends with a kiss.

‘Oh, baby,’ he says and suddenly his mouth swoops down on hers.

His mouth has transformed into a sexy eagle apparently.

The chapter ends with Maxim getting a phone call from a neighbor informing him that he’s been burgled!

The Mister Chapter 20 Summary:

The neighbor informs Maxim that his door was wide open and his flat was a wreck. She hasn’t called the police yet and instead wanted to call Maxim first (I found this weird…but I guess I might have done the same thing in her shoes? I don’t know.)

Instead of, I don’t know, worrying that maybe the SEX TRAFFICKER THUGS have to do with this, Maxim assumes that it was some “feral teenagers” or a “low-life addict”.

Fuck. A. Duck.

James, E L. The Mister (p. 341). Random House. Kindle Edition.

That is certainly a reaction.

Maxim heads to his OTHER home in order to FaceTime (no seriously, we get all the specifics of how he’s calling his security detail and on what device) Oliver about what’s going on.

Meanwhile, back in Alessia’s POV, she frets about Maxim and thinks about how much she loves him.

UH OH, over in Maxim’s POV while he’s having breakfast, one of his staff members informs him that two “unsavoury” men who were “aggressive. From Eastern Europe…” had come looking for Maxim. OH NO!

Back in Alessia’s POV, there are voices coming from downstairs.

It’s Dante and Ylli.

They’ve found her.

“Let’s see, an erotic thriller…well, they should spend some time thinking about how hot the other person is, definitely. I guess they have tragic pasts, yeah, sure. THEN THEY BANG, A LOT, JUST SO MUCH FUCKING, YEEEEEEEEEAH.”

    “And then…the plot?”

    “Ugh, FINE!”
