A Court of Wings and Ruin Chapter 19: Feyre Needs a Training Montage

Previously, Nesta agreed to try to help plug the magical holes in the wall. But she refuses to help recruit fae to their cause by sharing her story of how the Cauldron turned her into a fae. I guess because conflict.

We also find out that the gang has to return to the Court of Nightmares because for reason they’re in charge of the entire army. Idk. Matthew explained it last week and did his best.

A Court of Wings and Ruin Chapter 19:

Feyre goes to meet Cassian to resume her training, and he instantly starts making sex jokes.

Leaning against the wall beside the weapons rack, Cassian only said, “I hope you didn’t exert yourself too much already, because this is really going to hurt.”

I rolled my eyes, even as I tried to shut out the image of Rhysand laying me on my stomach, then kissing his way down my spine.

Feyre continues to just stand there and flashback to her and Rhys fucking. If this was so important to show, I’m not entirely sure why we didn’t just start the chapter that way.

As they begin to spar, Feyre realises that Cassian is pissed at her. Apparently he’s really mad that before they faced Hybern, she hadn’t told them she was High Lady. His logic, in my opinion is convoluted. If he’d said, “Because I thought we were friends” it would have made more sense to me than this:

“Because … because as his mate, you were still … his to protect. Oh, don’t get that look. He’s yours to protect, too. I would have laid my life down for you as his mate— and as your friend. But you were still … his.”

“And as High Lady?” Cassian loosed a rough breath. “As High Lady, you are mine. And Azriel’s, and Mor’s and Amren’s. You belong to all of us, and we belong to you. We would not have … put you in so much danger.”

“Your life holds more value to us now with that information!”

The conversation gets even more confusing and is honestly all over the place. One second it’s about Cassian worrying about Feyre at the Spring Court and the next it switches to how worried Rhysand was. I feel like we already knew that, and if anything, this conversation should stay focussed on Cassian and Feyre’s relationship, which at least is slightly new and interesting information even if the conversation doesn’t really make much sense.

Then it becomes about how worried Cassian was for Rhysand when he was Under the Mountain. I guess the moral of the story is, friends gotta protect friends this time around or something. I don’t know.

But then who cares because Nesta shows up and Cassian is thirsty AF.

Something drew Cassian’s attention behind me. And even as his body remained casual, a predatory gleam flickered in his eyes. I didn’t nee

d to turn to know who was standing there.

“Care to join?” Cassian purred.

Nesta shows up in a dress, so I’m not exactly sure why she’s there if not to train. Feyre starts screaming down the bond that Rhys needs to save her from this bullshit, and it’s both dumb as hell and also makes complete sense. Cassian and Nesta are super annoying, please get us out of here, Feyre.

But not before Nesta can get in a classic dig at Cassian:

“Why should I be scared of an oversized bat who likes to throw temper tantrums?”

I choked, and Cassian shot me a warning glare, daring me to laugh.

Anyway, Rhys is busy, so he sends Azriel to pick Feyre up for her flying training session early. I guess he had nothing better going on.

So he whisks them away, and Feyre is able to shapeshift pretty quickly.

I’d summoned them that day in the Steppes from pure memory and fear. Creating them now … I let my mind slip into my recollections of Rhys’s wings, how they felt and moved and weighed …

“The frame needs to be a bit thicker,” Azriel offered as a weight began to drag at my back. “Strengthen the muscles leading to it.”

I obeyed, my magic listening in turn.

It’s cool, but it sounds so easy. But the hard part is Feyre being physically strong enough to carry the weight of new wings. Why she doesn’t shapeshift more muscles, I don’t know, but Azriel explains she’s gonna strengthen her bod. Even though I thought she had superhuman strength now. IDK!

The chapter ends with Feyre basically being like, “I’ve made a huge mistake.”

It just gets worse and worse. The whole shouting down the bond thing is weird. The connection works great when they just want to sext, but it never works when they need each other.

I used to weight train, so I understand the need to build muscles. Even though you maybe physically strong, it doesn’t neccesarily mean you’re physically fit. Although, I recall Feyre being a hunter and rather fit in general. Then again wings are a whole new set of limbs that she needs to be able to conjure on the “fly”.
