A Court of Wings and Ruin Chapters 78-79: Remember All These Side Characters? Me Neither

"Oh my god! Who the hell cares?"

Rhysand and Amren died. But now they’re not dead, and the war is maybe over or something.

Chapter 78:

The Archeron sisters go to bury their father who died as he lived: as a character who was apparently in these books.

Lucien shows up just as their makeshift funeral is ending.

“Thank you—for coming. With the battle, I mean.”

“I’ve got one hell of a story to tell you,” he said, squeezing me tightly.

This can only mean one thing: we have AT LEAST an entire chapter of exposition to look forward to.

Lucien lets Feyre know that Vassa will want to talk to her. Apparently Papa Archeron (RIP) made a deal with Vassa’s “keeper” for her to come battle…so I guess that will be a side plot we can all look forward to? Helping side character 300000 find freedom?

Elain invites Lucien to Velaris and he accepts. Now that we have no hope for Mazriel and Casta (Nessian? I didn’t actually google these ship names), I guess it’s time to focus on ANOTHER romantic sideplot.

As we strode back to the camp, Lucien told us of his time away—how he’d hunted for Vassa, how he’d found her already with my father, an army marching westward. How Miryam and Drakon had found them on their own journey to help us.

Hmm so maybe we won’t have a whole chapter of exposition? I’m not sure, but this also seems like an absurd and lazy use of Lucien.

Feyre gets back to camp and finds none other than Drakon and Miryam hanging out with Rhys. By the way, Miryam’s presence in the room is revealed like it’s a big twist even though I can’t see any reason to be excited to meet her now that the battle is over.

Chapter 79:

Drakon and Miryam agree to hide the Cauldron on their secret island. They also confirm that though they don’t trust him, they let Jurian live and he’s fucked off to help some wounded soldiers somewhere.

And that’s it! Because then we jump forward to Feyre hosting a meeting in her family’s old estate with…what sounds like the entire army.

High Lords and princes, generals and commanders, humans and Fae … I still didn’t have the words to really express it. How we could all gather in the giant sitting room, the only usable space in my family’s old estate, and actually have … this meeting.

Somehow Feyre holds a meeting the foyer and tells us how a lot of High Lords are glaring at or ignoring each other. Tamlin sees Lucien wearing NIGHT COURT CLOTHES and furiously ignores him too. I guess that friendship will be resolved offscreen and with a paragraph of explanation.

Lucien wasn’t foolish enough to beg for forgiveness.

That conversation, that confrontation—it would take place at another time. Another day, or week, or month.

Yes, thank you for clarifying what you meant by ANOTHER TIME, Feyre darling.

We spend about ten pages just being told who is walking in and where they are standing.

"Oh my god! Who the hell cares?"

Vassa shows up last and tells Feyre how great her father was (footage not found). The Vassa says,

“He was a better father to me than my own. I owe much to him, and will honor his memory as long as I live.”

W H A T????????

Then without explaining HOWEST THE FUCKEST THAT COULD BE TRUE GIVEN THIS BOOK HAS ONLY SPANNED LIKE 4 MONTHS OR SOMETHING INSANE???? Vassa is just like, “So about breaking my curse.”

Feyre: Idk…I’m not sure how to do that but…I’m Feyre so probz.

Vassa: I have to go back to the death lord dude, but also there’s probably a loophole so I can stay here for awhile. Am I main character now?

Feyre: Only if we find out your mate is here.

Vassa also reminds them the other evil queens are out there and have armies too.

The chapter ends with Feyre starting her meeting and announcing she wants to discuss a treaty.

I pity the poor, unfortunate soul who was tasked with editing this incomprehensible mess. God bless them for trying

Good thing we spent so much valuable time investing in Lucian since he ended up being so important later on. Wait a minute…

Also, “He was a better father to me than my own.” Lucky you since he clearly wasn’t a good father to Feyre!

    Happy birthday, Ariel!!!

I feel like this really captures the essence of ACOWAR, you know?

Happy birthday! Sorry you’re still reading this book!
