The Mister Chapter 15 Summary: Maxim and Alessia Get Cosy

Previously, they slept together and Matthew did an amazing job of comparing that scene to Fifty Shades. Check it out if you haven’t had a chance to yet.

Matthew and I were chatting a little bit about the fact that we didn’t get any of Alessia’s POV in the last chapter, which was weird considering how many POV switches we get. Though this chapter does give us a little bit of her POV, it’s still waaaay skewed towards Maxim’s reaction to everything, which is a little bit odd. BUT we do mostly get the follow-up sex scene from her POV, so make of that what you will.

The Mister Chapter 15 Summary:

Okay, so what exactly is Alessia’s reaction to her first time with Maxim/losing her virginity?

Maxim is heavy on top of her, his breathing forced and urgent, while Alessia lies panting beneath him. She’s overwhelmed with sensation and a bone-deep fatigue, but most of all by his … invasion.

James, E L. The Mister (p. 250). Random House. Kindle Edition.

But this is apparently a good thing, and she assures Maxim it was good for her. This isn’t good enough for him, and we switch back to his POV where he angsts about how he hurt Alessia and makes it about her comforting him.

I’d been transported from the depths of despair to an earth-shattering climax, but my rosy, post-coital, best-fuck-ever glow vanishes like a magician’s rabbit. I reach down and yank the condom off my dick, disgusted with myself.

James, E L. The Mister (p. 251). Random House. Kindle Edition.

I love the image of Maxim angstily yanking the condom off. What a powerful moment.

Maxim’s mood lifts when he realises that Alessia came and that she wants to have sex with him again. He runs them a bath, the whole time telling us how wild it is that he’s a grown man who feels this giddy about the amazing sex he just had.

Gushing water fills the tub, and I marvel at the day’s events. I’ve finally laid my daily.

James, E L. The Mister (p. 253). Random House. Kindle Edition.

I can’t tell if this is an attempt at humor, but it seems like a really odd shift in tone for Maxim after all of his concerns about taking advantage of Alessia to then be like “I’ve finally laid my daily.”

We then come to the first of many references this chapter to Maxim’s penis’ reactions.

And, what’s more, I get to spend this week and maybe next week with her … The prospect is exciting.

My cock stirs in agreement.

James, E L. The Mister (p. 253). Random House. Kindle Edition.

In his giddy, post-coital haze, Maxim has some truly weird trains of thought that I cannot for the life of me follow.

A virgin. I’ll have to marry her now. I snort at my ridiculous thought as I wash my hands, but I wonder if any of my ancestors found themselves in that position. Two of my forebears were involved in well-documented, scandalous liaisons, but my knowledge of my family history is sketchy at best. Kit was thoroughly versed in the family’s history and lineage. He paid attention. My father made sure of that. My mother made sure of that. It was all part of Kit’s duties as heir. He knew that keeping the earldom intact meant everything to our family.

But he’s no longer here.

Fuck. Why didn’t I pay attention?

James, E L. The Mister (p. 253). Random House. Kindle Edition.

I have no idea where the fuck is coming from. I guess we just needed our OBLIGATORY WHY KIT WHY????? moment. But seriously, I don’t get if Maxim was like…trying to joke around with himself or what the fuck happened but WHAT ON EARTH! Haha will I have to marry a virgin -> wait ppl used to do that -> did my ancestors do that?? -> did I miss my family history class where they talked about which of my ancestors married a virgin because that’s apparently a thing that would come up -> Kit would probz know who in our family had sex with a virgin and was forced to marry them -> Kit was the heir -> WHY KIT WHY!!! -> why didn’t I pay attention to my family history of fucking virgins.

Maxim is sad now as he runs the bath, but soon Alessia brightens his mood again. They flirt a bit and take their bath together with champagne and foot rubs (A GOOD TIME, I’LL GIVE THEM THAT!)

‘I could kiss you all day,’ he murmurs. Tiny drops of water cling to his body like dew. In her dazed state, Alessia wonders what they would taste like if she licked them off.

What!

She inhales sharply at her wayward thoughts.

How wanton.

James, E L. The Mister (p. 260). Random House. Kindle Edition.

You mean to tell me that Alessia knows the word WANTON but later she doesn’t know that when Maxim offers her “more fizz” he’s offering her more champagne. I don’t know, you guys, but I feel like people whose native language is English don’t even really know the word wanton. This is nothing against Alessia, it’s more a comment on character inconsistency.

I’m going to give it to you guys straight. This chapter is SO FUCKING LONG but all they do is have a nice meal together, marvel at how they’ve slept together, play chess (Alessia wins! Maxim is threatened and aroused!) and then have sex again. This time it’s in Alessia’s perspective, and she’s very into it (yay! Go Alessia!). It’s all pretty straightforward unfortunately, and the chapter ends with them (and me) falling asleep.

Maybe tomorrow Matthew’s chapter will have something more exciting happen. You never know!

It’s a weird feeling reading EL James and not utterly despising it
